Full-Time Information Technology Assistant

The library is for everybody, including you. Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library (CRCPL) is hiring a full-time (40-hours per week) IT Assistant.

Share your software and hardware skills with the community. A successful IT Assistant enjoys helping others, is curious and always learning, has the computers skills to maintain library equipment and software, monitors updates and upgrades, and responds to technology troubleshooting requests from library staff and users.

CRCPL has eight locations throughout Ross County, plus remote book lockers and a bookmobile.

The primary worksite is the Annex building on the Main library campus at 140 S. Paint St. in Chillicothe. The starting wage is $18 to $20.50 per hour based on education and experience, plus a generous benefits package.

Primary Duties:

  • Be the primary trainer for computer and technology skills for staff and library users.
  • Assist the Information Technology Manager in the development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of library technology systems; including all hardware, software, networking and telecommunication systems, and information technology infrastructure and peripherals.
  • Participate in professional organizations, workshops and training; stay informed of current trends and new techniques in library and information technology as supported by the library’s continuing education budget.
  • Assist library users in accessing basic reference tools, both in print and electronically.
  • Work in public service areas as assigned, including answering reference and information questions; checking materials in and out; answering the telephone; issuing borrower’s cards; processing materials, shipments, and reports.
  • Responsible for library location in the absence of a manager. May direct clerical and page staff to ensure all essential tasks are completed.
  • Answer reference questions in person or by telephone and help patrons locate library materials.
  • Maintain files, records, and statistics as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a technology related field or comparable experience.
  • CompTIA A+, Network + or other relevant industry certifications preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Active directory, user maintenance, group policy, cloud computing and virtualization experience preferred.
  • Configuration of network components including switches and access points preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work and train and supervise others.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Common technology used in this position includes but is not limited to:

  • laptop and desktop computers
  • printers, copiers, fax machines, audio/video equipment
  • Microsoft Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, ChromeOS
  • Office 365, remote access software, electronic resources
  • Google applications that host the library’s intranet (StaffNet)
  • SirsiDynix Intergrated Library System

Paid Leave Time:

  • Holidays: 11 paid per calendar year
  • Vacation:
    • 3.08 hours accrued per pay period (10 days per year)
    • up to 40 hours may be carried over from year to year
  • Sick:
    • 4.61 hours accrued per pay period (15 days per year) for full-time employees
    • unused hours will carry over from year to year with a maximum of 960 hours
    • CRCPL pays 25% of unused sick hours for employees upon retiring via OPERS
    • new employees may transfer accumulated sick leave credit from another Ohio public library or Ohio public agency up to 960 hours
  • Jury Duty:  paid when summoned for jury duty
  • Working Election Polls:  paid when hours fall during regular schedule
  • Personal Leave:  24 hours (3 days) per calendar year
  • Wellness Leave:  four hours annually upon participation in the Wellness Program
