Seed Library

The Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library has launched its very own Seed Library for community gardeners! Seed Libraries are located in the Computer Lab at the Main Library on Paint Street, and near the circulation desk of all of our branch libraries.

A seed library is a place where seeds are exchanged, donated, or lent to community farmers and the general public with the intention of preserving biodiversity, promoting healthy eating, and fostering community resilience.

There are many advantages to growing your own vegetables, either by joining a community garden or by starting your own. Even if you live in a small apartment with no backyard, or if you have a busy lifestyle, many crops can be grown with minimal space and effort.

Library patrons are welcome to take up to five packets of seeds from the library, per person per visit. Please bring your seeds to the circulation desk to “check them out” once you make your selections. Of course, you don’t have to return these library materials! (Unless you harvest more seeds at the end of the season, and then, please, return some to the Seed Library!)

Donations of harvested or purchased and unused seeds are greatly appreciated to help keep our Seed Library thriving.

Feel free to print some of these blank seed packets to fill and return to the Seed Library. Give your donation of seeds to a library staff member and we’ll see that they go into the collection.

Disclaimer: CRCPL cannot guarantee the viability or age of any seed submission. We cannot guarantee that the seeds were grown organically or are non-GMO. Old seeds are permitted, as many old seeds will still germinate and grow.
