The assignment: pick your favorite Aesop’s fable and design and paint a picnic table that tells the story. The library chose The Crow and the Pitcher:
On a hot day, a thirsty crow found a pitcher with a small amount of water at the bottom. There was so little, she could not reach it with her beak, but the crow is clever! She looked around and found small pebbles and began to drop them into the pitcher. With each pebble, the water rose a little higher until, at last, it was high enough to take a drink.
With tools and knowledge, the crow quenched her thirst!
The library’s table, along with 15 others, will be sold to the highest bidder at the Aesop’s Table event on June 23 on 2nd St. in Chillicothe (near the Majestic). The event is hosted by Anna and Richard Villareal.
The outdoor festival starts at 5:00 p.m., with food and drink for purchase, as well as music by DJ Ricky Goshorn. There is also a silent auction.
The table auction starts at 6:30 p.m. The library will receive 100% of the proceeds of the sale of its table. All other proceeds raised through food and drink sales, donations, and silent auctions will be divided evenly among the 16 groups.
Limited tickets for the event are $5.00 each, and are available at the Main Library (where you can see the finished table) and Homeland Credit Union’s Chillicothe locations.
All of the library’s proceeds from the event will go directly to the Public Library Fund for Ross County. The fund was created to ensure that Ross County residents will be able to enjoy the library for years to come.

While there, through the middle of May, you can vote for the People’s Choice Award. We are, of course, hoping you’ll vote for the library!
In case you don’t want to commit to buying an 8-foot long picnic table, a limited edition poster of the design will be available for purchase at the event.
